RGURS organizes Open Badminton championship

ITANAGAR, Apr 27: Dali Dolo and Tai Bai won the title of the three days open badminton championship organized by Rajiv Gandhi University Research Scholar Forum (RGURSF) at the university auditorium, Rono Hills, Doimukh.

The pair of Dali Dolo and Tai defeated Marpe Sora and Dr. Dukam Taipodia in an exciting final to win title.

The pair of Jommi Loyi and Nich Bapu was the second runners up.

As many as 34 players representing 17 teams participated in the championship.

Dr. T. Lhungdim (Dean of Student Welfare, Rajiv Gandhi University) attended the closing ceremony yesterday and gave away the certificate and cash prizes to the winner and runners up teams and all the participants.

Students’ leaders from AAPSU, ALSU and Apatani Students also attended the championship day before yesterday.

VKV principal’s official residence gutted

ITANAGAR, Apr 27: The official residence of Principal, VKV Joram was gutted in a fire on the night of April 26.

“Nothing could be saved from the fire as the staff of the school barring the chowkidar were out on summer vacation,” informed Likha Tatam, Secretary, Sitam Sicho Society, Joram.

Electric short-circuit is suspected to have caused the fire but the actual cause and properties lost or damaged in the fire are yet to be ascertained.

Being informed, a team of police from Hapoli police station today inspected the accident site. Meanwhile, the Panchayat leaders, including the Yachuli ZPM and ASMs, urged the Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner to visit the school and make necessary arrangement for re-construction of a new building before the start of new academic session.

Bihu celebrated at NERIST

ITANAGAR, Apr 27: Rongali Bihu was celebrated by the Assamese fraternity of NERIST at the institute campus, Nirjuli today.

Attending the celebration, Chief Editor of Arunachal Front Nani Kojin said Assam and Arunachal Pradesh had social, cultural and economic bonding since time immemorial. He appealed to the people of both the sisterly states to maintain the age-old cordial relations.

Extending his Bihu greetings to the Assamese people living in the state on different occupations, Kojin, who did his school education from Sainik School, Gaolpara (now at Rajapara), appreciated NERIST Rongali Bihu Celebration Committee (LUIT-2014) for organizing the festival.

“Besides showcasing one’s rich culture and tradition, celebration of such festival foster the feelings of brotherhood and oneness among people of all communities,” he said. He exhorted the young generation to preserve and promote Bihu.

Assam Students’ Association NERIST (ASAN) president Kalyan Gogoi, in his welcome speech, highlighted about Bihu. ASAN vice president D Gogoi also spoke on the occasion.

Bihu troupes from Assam, including the ASAN Bihu team performed Bihu dance. A Nyishi cultural troupe also presented a traditional dance on the occasion.

The festival was attended among others by students and staff of NERIST and other invited guests.

Deprived polling officials seek CEC’s intervention

ITANAGAR, Apr 27: The Arunachal Pradesh Postal Ballot Deprived Forum (APPBDF) has sought the intervention of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India so that those polling officials, who have been deprived from exercising their adult franchise, can cast their postal ballots.

In its representation to CEC, the Forum claimed that a large number of polling officials have been deprived from casting their postal ballots as they were not issued postal ballot papers despite submission of duly filled up Form 12 on March 26 last. Whereas, postal ballots were issued to those who submitted the same even on April four, the representation claimed.

While appealing to the CEC to do the needful to enable them cast their postal ballot before counting is done on May 16, the Forum also demanded the CEC to hold the concern DEOS/ROs responsible for failing to issue postal ballots on time.

The Forum informed that a representation was submitted to the CEO on April 24 appealing him to issue postal ballots but the CEO has allegedly refused to issue more postal ballots.

The Forum in a meeting here yesterday decided to knock the door of the court in case the election authority fails to respond positively to its demand by April 28.

Governor felicitates maker of ‘Crossing Bridges’

ITANAGAR, Apr 27: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma felicitated the director of award winning film ‘Crossing Bridges’ Sange Dorjee Thongdok and his team at Raj Bhawan here yesterday.

The film was adjudged winner in the category of best feature film for languages not specified in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution in the 61st National Film Awards.

While congratulating Thongdok, the Governor advised him to explore various subjects on Arunachal Pradesh for making films, which he hoped, will create a better understanding about this culturally rich state and its people. He suggested him to bring every tribe into focus with special focus on language and indigenous faith and beliefs and some practices that needs change.

The people of this hill state, who are close to nature and have rich cultural heritage of dance and drama, acting comes natural, the Governor added. First Lady of the State Jyotsna Sharma, father of Thongdok Tenzing Norbu Thongdok, Parliamentary Secretary (PWD), his brother Dr. Tsering Dorjee Thongdok, Assistant Director of the film Tenzin Kechok and lead actor Phuntsu Khrime were present during the function. The film also screened at Raj Bhawan on the occasion.

Anshu cancels Mt. Everest expedition

ITANAGAR, Apr 27: Ace Anshu Jamsenpa has cancelled her Mt. Everest expedition following death of 16 Sherpa guides in an avalanche recently. She was attempting a double ascent of Mt Everest for the second time.

Anshu and her team were at the Base Camp preparing for the climb when the tragic accident took place at Khumbu Icefall, just above their camp, informed Arunachal Mountaineering & Adventure Sports Association president Tsering Wange.

The Nepal Tourism Minister Bhim Acharya accompanied by Secretary Tourism Sushil Ghimire flew to Everest Base Camp and held an emergency meeting to take stock of the situation and to urge the stake holders to continue the climbing expeditions.

After the emotional and contentious meeting, Anshu said, “I am leaving the Everest Base Camp today. I have explored every option and can find no way to safely continue the expedition. Hence I have suspended my world record attempt until next season". However, she added that she would climb a couple of other peaks in Nepal Himalayas before returning back to India.

Avalanches are the greatest cause of death for climbers scaling Everest. The warming of the Himalayan climate in recent years has made the icefall more unstable than ever, and there is still no way to predict when a serac is going to topple over.

Mt Everest has an extreme climate. The summit temperature never rises above freezing 0° C. Average temperature during January is -36° C and can drop to -60° C. In July, it is -19° C. Over 250 people have died on the slopes of Everest with 1 in 10 successful summits ending in death.

Discovery Channel who lost 5 Sherpas in the avalanche will telecast its documentary about this deadliest incident on May 4 next. It will include unprecedented access and eyewitness accounts from the rescue and recovery efforts that took place after the avalanche struck the Khumbu Icefall, the area just above Everest Base Camp (EBC).

It may be recalled that the Double Ascend Everest Expedition was flagged off by Arunachal Governor Lt. Gen. Nirbhay Sharma from Itanagar on April three.

Ace mountaineer Jamsenpa, who is also a mother of two girls, scaled the world`s highest peak three times earlier including a double ascent within 10 days in May 2011.

Hope visit will expedite the construction activity

Two of the major infrastructure projects of state, that is, State Legislative Assembly and Civil Secretariat building have not been completed till date, missing deadlines on several occasions. Cost escalation and untimely release of payment to the contractors are considered to be few of the major causes for the delay. State government has also failed to solve those issues which are delaying the projects. Untimely completion is major embarrassment for the state of Arunachal as stakes are high.

It is believed that union government had expressed deep concern over sluggish progress of work. If a project which is constantly monitored by both state and central government officials is not completed on time, imagine what will be the situation of infrastructure projects being executed at interior parts of state. However as a major morale boost, yesterday Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma visited the under-construction State Legislative Assembly and Civil Secretariat buildings sites. He was accompanied by Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi, Commissioner (PWD) Belatee Pertin, Secretary Planning Sonam Chombay and senior officials of Public Works Department during the visit. Interacting with the officials, Governor emphasized on expediting the construction works. Public Works Department Western Zone Chief Engineer Er. K Waghe informed that both the buildings are targeted to be completed by March 2015. Hope the visit of Governor will expedite the work in true sense.

Adopt proper ILP system before introducing railway

Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily, the Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Tribes’ Union (APITU) would like to place grievances of the people.

We are working to save the ethnicity and to protect land. The rivers belonging to indigenous people of state should be saved for the future generation. We appealed to the Govt of Arunachal Pradesh to take urgent steps to stop illegal immigration of Bangladeshi and Tibetan Refugee.

It is open secret that non-Indigenous people who are residing in the different parts of the district has obtained important documents like PRC, Voter ID Card and is enjoying more facility than the indigenous community who are deprived by outsiders. It is our demand to the state Govt. to detect all Bangladeshi and Tibetan Refugee living in different parts of state and deport them. Govt. should adopt proper mechanism to implement ILP systems before introducing passenger train in the state capital. Otherwise, our state might invite trouble and soon we may become the next Tripura in days to come.

Arunachalee should not be deprived

Dear Editor,

In the month of April 2013 Prasar Bharati notified job vacancy for combined recruitment of Program executive and Transmission Executive .Total vacancy for the Arunachal Pradesh was 22( Transmission executive) plus few posts of program executive. But it was reduced to 16( Transmission executive) in compliance with the order of hon’ble Guhati high court, Itanagar permanent Bench in OA No 1110/2013, MA No844/2013&OA No1273/2013 . Of these 16 posts of Transmission executive, 7 post are reserved for ST and rest are unreserved. Written test was conducted in the moth of 02/06/2013 at Itanagar and interview at Guahati from 21st April to 23rd April 2014

Now for these 16 post of transmission executive and few post of program executive, total 18 candidates (12 candidates for the post of transmission executive and 7 candidates for the program executive) were selected for the viva-voice from Arunachal Pradesh. No single Non –APST from Arunachal Pradesh could secure minimum qualifying marks for the viva –voice in unreserved post. All 18 selected candidates for the viva –voice are Arunachalees. Again from these 18 candidates 6 candidates did not attend viva-voice.

So now total candidates are 12 and post for the ST are 7 (transmission executive), but total post are 16. As per enquiry made from the Prasar Bharati, since no one ( NON-APST) could secure minimum qualifying marks for the viva-voice from the Arunachal Pradesh in unreserved post , those unreserved post will be filled up from the other states. If this is done it will be injustice to the 12 local youths of the state who have appeared in the viva-voice for the above said post.

Since total selected Arunachal youths for the viva-voice is 12 and total post are 16. Therefore, from 16 posts, 12 posts may be given to those 12 local youths who appeared in the viva-voice and rest post may be given to any one by the Prasar Bharati.

Unemployment is very big problem in our state. Unemployment problem is one of the reason for the formation of many organization and union in our state because youth have to be engaged somewhere. Since Govt of Arunachal is unable to provide govt. job to all local youths, and there is no private company or industries to observe the unemployed youths local youths are competing for the central govt job. So it is responsibility of state govt to help local youth to get observed in central job, especially in such situation as has been mention above where State government’s little request to Prasar Bharati can do justice to the 12 local youths of the state . If we remember similar case happened in the month of December 2013, for the post of officer under Arunachal Pradesh Rural Bank, from 5 posts only 1 Arunachalee was selected.

Therefor it is my humble request to the State Govt and all three Hon’ble MP to impress upon the Prasar Bharati to observe all those 12 youths who have appeared in the viva-voice at Guahati. I am not asking for the creation of extra posts, unreserved posts are already there for which no one (Non-APST) from Arunacahal could qualified for the interview. In these unreserved posts those 12 local youths of Arunachal may be filled up. We also appeal all the public, NGOs, Student unions etc to support those 12 candidates .Because tomorrow your brother sister or friend may also be in such situation. If theses 12 brothers and sisters are selected, at least there will be reduction of few percentages of unemployment rates of the state.

Stop forest fire

Dear Editor,

Spreading of forest fire in Arunachal is becoming a major cause for global warming. Trees and wild animals are being burnt to ashes. The fire is burning all over hills of Jote, Poma & Ganga village. It’s been burning on since many days. Appeal made by citizens through your daily to GoAP has failed. They should have carried out awareness campaign by visiting the villages. I wonder, are they taking any action. Or sitting back and watching the scene.

GoAP has failed to stop such practices as increasing numbers of area covered by forest fire is rising yearly. I request concern authorities to put full effort to stop burning of forest fire and punish every party who are involved in such cases.

Last but not the least I request all the students unions to spread awareness against such practices instead of making useless bandh calls.
